Qur’anic recitation in
translation

Q555 :If a man does not know how to read the Qur’an
in Arabic, can it be read in English or Urdu or any other
language?

A555 : To read a translation of the meaning or the
Qur’an is perfectly permissible. A Muslim who does not know Arabic
should try to understand the message of the Qur’an by consulting a
translation in a language he knows. It is not permissible, however, to
read a translation of the Qur’an in prayer. That is because God wants
us to offer our prayers reading His words as He revealed them to His
last messenger, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him). He certainly
revealed the Qur’an in Arabic, not in the language of any translator. A
Muslim should learn the Fatihah by heart as well as any number of
surahs or verses or passages from which to read in his prayers.
